Knocking it out of the park. So much respect for this guy’s drive, talent, and skill.
This week’s post on The FABRICATOR. Not really a “how to”, more of a “why.” You can’t judge a weld by its colors without context…
“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.” -da Vinci
Also a bonus bit on gas flow and how there’s no need to crank it up.

#throwbackthursday to the oil and gas tanks for the #panicattack build. Was on camera welding for the first time doing these, back when @miller_welders visited last year. Fun experience! The gas tank is tig brazed copper and stainless, the oil tank is aluminum with fully penetrated butt, fillet, and corner joints. A little of everything! I get asked about the project a lot, but the surgeries obviously put it on hold. I need to focus on sculpting for the next few months, but plan to get back on this after that!

#throwbackthursday from before the #panicattack build when I was first working on my butt joints. I don’t do much of this kind of work, and I wanted to make sure I had full pen and it looked decent. Had it down pretty good by the time we filmed, got some great advice from a few IG guys on here as well :)(Top is backside of welds)

I’m working today, cutting up some aluminum slabs for a fixture. I’m moving it around and the boss asks “what do you think that weighs?” I said “I don’t know. I use to be good at guessing weight, back when I had to rig a lot. Pry 75lbs?”
BOOM. Still got it.

"Each artist owes it to himself to develop his own formulae. Only in this way will ceramics continue to grow as an art form.
Once you discover something on your own it really belongs to you. You can’t discover anything important by copying.” - Mary Chase Stratton
Tom Fritz said something similar to me when I met him a couple years ago.
This pretty much sums up why I’ve never felt comfortable talking about the “how” in my art, or “what part did you use for that” it’s constantly evolving, changing. I’ve had people angry I wouldn’t send them a blueprint (I rarely even sketch things out first), and I’ve had plenty of others that just try to copy best they can. I’m not reinventing the wheel, but I’m at least trying to push my own limits. If you wanna grow creatively, it’s a personal journey, mostly. Influence is fine, but my biggest steps have come from between my ears.
